Millions of Dollars in OSHA Fines for 2023, and we are only half way through!

The Department of Labor announced the annual adjustments to OSHA civil penalties for 2023. The increased civil penalty amounts are based on cost-of-living adjustments. The new penalty amounts became effective on January 17, 2023.

OSHA’S maximum penalties for serious and other-than-serious violations increased from $14,504 per violation to $15,625 per violation. The maximum penalty for willful or repeat violations increased from $145,027 per violation to $156,259 per violation.

But the real news is – OSHA is on the move!

So far, $5.3 MILLION DOLLARS in penalties for initial enforcement cases have been issued by OSHA in New Jersey alone for the first six months of 2023.  And these statistics only include cases with initial penalties of $40,000 or more.

One way to avoid OSHA fines is to conduct regular safety inspections of the workplace to identify and address potential safety hazards.  Could you benefit from a safety assessment with PTP?
