The Terrible Trend of HAZMAT Transportation Accidents

The disastrous incident on  June 11, 2023 involving a fiery gasoline tanker fire and collapse of Route 95 was a fatal HAZMAT incident.

The East Palestine, Ohio train derailment in February of 2023  involving a release of over 100 thousand gallons of Vinyl Chloride – a known carcinogen – was another disastrous HAZMAT incident, both making national news

These are examples of incidents involving bulk containers, however most incidents happen with non-bulk containers – the 55 gallon drums, the consumer commodities.  In 2022 alone, there were over 23,000 hazmat reportable incidents involving non bulk containers. That’s over 60 per day!

SHIPPERS BEWARE!  – the root cause is not typically the drivers’ fault.   Oftentimes – shippers are to blame with mistakes involving packaging, labeling, marking, shipping papers.

Do you ship Hazardous Materials?  Are your HAZMAT Employees trained?  Does your company understand the liabilities and responsibilities of Shippers?
